Advanced avalanche course

In a complex and challenging terrain such as the Sunnmøre Alps, knowledge of the snowpack is necessary for safe travel. Advanced avalanche courses are for those who seek a deeper understanding of the avalanche subject and want to be able to make independent assessments in varied terrain. The course's learning objective is to give the participants skills to navigate safer in the winter mountains and find the best snow!

Course content

The course extends over 2 days and is ideal for participants with experience from summit tours and basic knowledge of snow. The aim is to provide a more thorough understanding of snow and traffic in avalanche terrain.

  • Snøomvandlingsprosesser

  • Snødekkeanalyse

  • Stabilitetstester

  • Ferdsel i skredterreng

  • Kameratredning med sender/mottager, spade og søkestang

  • Bruk av Varsom 

  • Digitale verktøy for turplanlegging

  • Kunsten å finne godt skiføre

Our guides

We mainly use internationally approved IFMGA Mountain Guides or ski guides (NORTIND) with good qualifications on guided tours. Our guides have been selected especially for their local knowledge and guidance skills.

Equipment list

​

  • Daypack, 25-40 litres, with ski attachment

  • Alpine ski equipment:

    • Ski

    • Boots

    • Staves

    • Ski traps

  • Avalanche equipment: transmitter/receiver, search rod, shovel (can be rented for NOK 450 per day, or a maximum of NOK 1,200 in total for several days)

  • Shaving iron is necessary under certain conditions, especially in the spring. Recommended for everyone.

  • Ski goggles

  • Thermos

  • Lunch box 

  • Windproof jacket and trousers

  • Thick wool sweater/fleece/down jacket

  • Woolen underwear

  • Neck, hat, two pairs of gloves/mittens

  • Wind bag/first aid kit (if you have)

On some of the ski trips we also need axes and crampons. If you have this yourself, feel free to bring it along. Alternatively, you can rent from us.

Equipment can be rented from us if you do not have it.
