Freeskiing course Strandafjellet

The aim of the free skiing course is that after the course you should feel safer and enjoy skiing in varied terrain and different snow conditions. You will also be able to make better judgments to find good skiing and become better at assessing avalanche risk for a safer experience.

The free skiing course is designed for those who want to improve their skiing skills on different types of snow and become better at buddy rescue and avalanches. This is not only for extreme athletes, but for ordinary skiers who want to expand their skills and improve, both on and off groomed slopes.

The course is based at Strandafjellet skiresort, which has been voted Norway's best off-piste ski centre. If there are good snow conditions, we will also be able to visit other local ski centers in the area. We will explore the groomed slopes, off-piste terrain, and take shorter trips with traps, starting from the ski resort. If the weather and conditions permit, we can also include a day with a pure summit tour.

We emphasize skiing technique, safety, skiing pleasure and play. In addition to skiing, we will spend time on basic avalanche knowledge, route selection and buddy rescue.

Objectives of the course

After this freeskiing course, you should be able to ski more safely, with greater confidence and enjoyment in all types of terrain and snow conditions. You will also be able to make better and safer decisions regarding snow conditions and avalanche risk. The course will also focus on understanding the snow quality and choosing the best descent routes.

Content of the course

We start in the ski resort with a focus on basic technique, skiing pleasure, choice of lines and assessment of terrain. Flow, speed control and self-confidence are key elements. Eventually, we will explore areas outside the facility, where assessment of terrain, routes and avalanche risk will become more important. Landslide assessment based on the warning will be a consistent theme. We will also have a session on buddy rescue in avalanches.

The course can be arranged throughout the winter, from mid-December to mid-March, depending on snow conditions. We can offer courses in most places in southern Norway, provided there are sufficient snow conditions.
